Join Our Board of Directors
The Michigan Lupus Foundation is in the process of rebuilding the organization and seeks new, enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join the Board of Directors. Below please find the official job description.
Expectations & Responsibilities:
Act as an ambassador of the Michigan Lupus Foundation among professional and personal networks.
Support the organization’s mission, goals, policies and services to improve the quality of life for those living with lupus through support, education and research with the goal of finding a cure.
Commit to attend Michigan Lupus Foundation board meetings and meetings of other committees on which they serve. Board members must attend a minimum of 50% of all board and committee meetings annually.
Be well prepared for all board and committee meetings by reviewing the agenda and any supporting materials provided to you prior to the meeting.
Be respectful and open to the potentially conflicting opinions and points-of-view of your fellow directors.
Make an annual donation to the organization of $500, which may be raised through fundraising.
Fulfill your fiduciary responsibilities, including reading, understanding and monitoring the financial statements.
Contribute to the organization’s fundraising efforts by providing and cultivating prospects.
Support and attend Michigan Lupus Foundation programs, events and activities.
Adhere to the organization’s conflict of interest policy and code of ethics.
Restrictions:
All directors, officers, committee members and employees of the foundation shall scrupulously avoid conflicts of interest between their own personal or financial interest and those of the foundation.
Refrain from acting independently of the board without prior express permission of the full board.
In return for your committed volunteer service, we ensure:
You will receive your board packet prior to each regular meeting to allow time to review all materials.
There will be an open door to the Executive Director and board president.
There will be clear communication about the needs and issues relevant to the Michigan Lupus Foundation.
We will attempt to ensure you have the materials necessary to be an ambassador for the mission in the community.
