Grant requests are evaluated according to the following guidelines

Grants must be directly related to the treatment of lupus or a “lupus-related” emergency. Grants are for emergency and non-recurring personal or living expenses created by sudden loss of job, loss of disability benefits, awaiting public assistance, awaiting other government grants or awards, personal trauma or tragedy, overwhelming medical expenses, etc.

The grantee must offer satisfactory evidence that lupus has been medically diagnosed including physician verification (statement of medical diagnosis and signed medical release form included in application).

Applicants must identify the need and demonstrate how the grant will either fully cover the need or supplement personal or other resources. The Michigan Lupus Foundation staff will work with the applicant to see if other resources are available to cover the request.

Only completed applications will be accepted for review. All questions must be answered, including all necessary signatures and documentation. Be sure to include copies of any required supporting documents. Do not send originals as they will not be returned to you.

Grant requests will not be considered if assistance is available through any other sources. Proof of application and denial to other sources may be required.
Approved grants will be paid directly to the agency or provider, except in the case of clothing when a gift card will be issued.

Grants are limited to 2 per 12 month period per person with a maximum of $400 in any 12 month period. Approval of one grant for less than $400 does not entitle the grant recipient to the balance in that 12 month period. Each application will be considered based on the applicant’s situation at time of application.

Funding of a grant one year does not guarantee subsequent year funding.
